Mechanism Details

     
1. The Retraction Control Module (RCM) that consists of the Spring Retainer (SR), the Spring (S), and the Engagement Ramps (ER) that hold the needle holder is locked between two internal rings within the barrel to ensure tamper-proof functionality.

2. Retracted needle is lodged straight within the center of the plunger to eliminate the threat of barrel puncture.

3. Retraction mechanism is indexed to advance of the Plunger Ramps (PR) rather than to "O" ring displacement, that releases spring loaded needle.

This eliminates the hydraulic pressure displacement of the "O" ring found in 3rd generation safety syringes.

4. The proximal end of the needle faces a dead wall (DW) rather than an air filled plunger cavity in order to avoid reactive aerosolization.

5. The mechanical continuity and design of the Needle Holder (NH) within the barrel chamber aids in eliminating hydraulic pressure disablement while assisting insertion of the needle.

6. The luer taper of needle protector seals the nozzle and locks air in the barrel to avoid inadvertent plunger advance.

7. Needle is permanently bonded to the Needle Holder (NH) so that it cannot move free in the plunger or fall off when the plunger / plug is withdrawn.

8. Positive engagement of the plunger with barrel and needle holder provides a total interlock (lock) of components that renders Smart Syringe immobile and inoperative after use.
